Hello, and welcome. My name is Tim—though most people know me as Fish. Perhaps you will too, in time. I began my journey in 1986 at Hereford Technical College (as it was then), where I trained as a blacksmith under the legendary Mr Lloyd. The course was broad and hands-on, covering welding, fabrication, technical drawing, and allied trades. It was there that I discovered a craft that truly spoke to me—something that has stayed with me ever since. In my second year, I expanded my skills through agricultural repair work, building on the foundations I’d already learned. It was a unique experience, and one I’m not entirely sure was ever repeated! After college, I joined HM Forces as a metalsmith with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). It was a chapter of my life I’m proud of, though not one I often speak about in detail. Following my time in the forces, I moved into close protection security within the leisure industry—a field I’ve remained connected to over the years. Alongside this, I built a long and varied career in leisure, spanning more than two decades and roles ranging from lifeguard to area manager. During that time, I discovered a passion for training, eventually running a successful training company for over 20 years—until the challenges of COVID brought that chapter to a close.
Alongside all of this, I also worked as an event medic and later qualified as a frontline ambulance technician. For over a decade, I served on the front line—yes, I was one of the people arriving in the big yellow ambulance when you called 999. It was demanding, humbling, and incredibly rewarding work. These days, I continue to contribute by supporting specialist teams transporting sick babies and children between hospitals.
So, what about blacksmithing you ask?
The truth is, it was always the plan. I told myself I’d return to it at 45—but life had other ideas. Now, at 55, I’m finally stepping fully into that original dream: creating with my hands, working with metal and wood, and building something lasting.
Craftsmanship has always been part of who I am. This isn’t just a business—it’s a lifelong passion, and one I intend to pursue for as long as body and mind allow.
That’s the short version of my story—though I’m sure I’ve left a few things out. It’s always good to keep a little mystery.
Good to meet you.
